The longer the list, the more bureaucrats needed to curate it. Bureaucrats who shorten the list don’t make.GS-8. That’s probably why the “fee” to have your name removed is so high.
OH, I’m definitely on a few lists. I had my phone tapped for a few years back in the early 90’s, after I got out of the Army the first time. They were terrible at it. The interference got so bad sometimes that I couldn’t continue the conversation, so I would start talking to the guys running the tap. Oddly enough, the connection would be broken immediately.
