Well, He is sweating, and wet onions smell worse than dry ones by a long shot! Maybe running around in a panic ain’t a bad idea after all! (At least, for onions and their kin.)
He might also have come from the produce section of our local grocery store, a major chain located at the end of the line. Fresh produce is shipped from the bigger stores nearby after it hasn’t sold for a week.
