    I like the top hat.

    Should devils have belly buttons?

An intriguing question I shall certainly use at our next ‘Stump the Pastor’ Q&A session.

“No, not THAT AT&T. They’re far too ruthless. Asmodean Torture and Treachery – guaranteed service with a simile.” Yes, you may borrow or hat-tip shamelessly; I’m easily repaid by the jokes and running gags.

The navel question is Niven and Pournelle-grade humor, from “A Mote in God’s Eye”. Very nice touch.

      Metaphors are for angels?

Asmodean T&T is sweet but I don’t get the Mote IGE reference. Maybe time to ‘re-read again.

Toward the end of the book, Lieutenant Renner mentions “God’s Navel!” after being trapped into being Horace Bury’s pilot and unofficial minder. Bury jumps at the reference, and Renner smiles wickedly “what, God doesn’t have a navel?” – he’s got a hook on his new boss already.
