At first I thought there might be a hidden purpose behind the hinge of that cauldron squeaking, but now it strikes me more as a situation of ‘its different, it must be broken!’ situations.

But when one really thinks about it, the lack of sound may end up being helpful in the long run, as the inquisitors ears* will have a lot more difficulty picking up a sound that isn’t there.

*Do they have ears? from what I’ve seen churchie seems to be only inhabited by roots and fungi, so I get the impression that there aren’t any grain-based members of society…

We experimented with ‘steampunk-like ears’ during the early prototype stage of character development, but test audiences thought we were trying to make straight elves, not Churchian Vegfolk. That wasn’t so good.

As a result, the veggie characters hear normally via climate-change-enhanced magical air currents absorbed directly thru small fibrous patches where regular human ears would normally be drawn. I asked Codex to make small ear-shaped discolorations during the coloring phase, but soon discovered the back deck wasn’t a comfortable place to sleep…

Ah… I see that the joke in the comment was a little too subtle then…

All grain shares one thing in common, they have ears be they wheat or corn…

If you look carefully you can see various “fruits” and non-root veg in the comic. Yes they have a role.

Mostly it’s just the magic dirt.

I have NO idea how their inner guts work. Yet.

We’ve had some REALLY fun “conversations” about the actual Churchian fungal physiology. I have not yet won any of them.

The ugly appearance – “nothing to see here, just field ‘shrooms”

Creaking cauldron – warning that the secret door is used.. One of them, it’s all right, but if the Inquisitors find the hidden tunnel … don’t want to be caught in the middle of a third-class of greater Heresy.

It would be far more serious than third-class. On the other hand, I’m not a lawyer.

I think we’re just sad that the world-building obviated these characters:

What were their names, Q? Ypres? Hans? Januck?
