Our Story So Far…

I’m very, very disappointed with you, America. We at Tempest in a Teardrop are struggling to be counter-cultural and revolutionary, and it turns out we’re just part of the mainstream. I ran across two disturbing articles providing evidence for this.

The first comes from that bastion of facts, vox.com, so you know it has to be accurate: Only 18 percent of Americans consider themselves feminists. The gals at The Mary Sue are on suicide watch. Or they will be once they learn about this. Continue reading →

The Pea Hen Plague

I was roused from my nap writing meditation time when the entire house shook. My first thought was that Codex had finally hit the support while pulling into the garage. This would not be considered A Good Thing, so I popped on my shoes and went to investigate. No car. No garage damage. Horrible, obnoxious honking sounds from around the corner.

A very large bird had, apparently, flown into the chimney, bounced off, and was now demanding the house move aside at once. I know chickens, I know geese, and I know turkeys, but this bird was none of these. Dang, I thought to myself, the next plague is upon us. Continue reading →

The Spork Speaks

On 10 March 1972, America launched the Pioneer 10 spacecraft with a gold-anodized aluminum plaque, measuring 9″ x 6″. The plaque told any aliens finding the probe about our knowledge of Hydrogen, what we looked like, and, conveniently, on which planet they could hunt us. Continue reading →

The Spork Speaks

Mankind (and if that word offends you this is going to be a rough piece), is on the cusp of a great societal breakthrough. Around 3500 BC we built a great tower, and challenged God for control of the heavens. God was not amused, and sentenced us to language diversity. You can read the original story in Genesis 11.

Mankind now has an answer. It took us long enough. Maybe God had a point. Continue reading →

The Spork Speaks

I’ve always pictured societal stupidity as a two-dimensional graph. I’m almost certain that one of those sides is labeled “self-importance”. The other is a mystery. At present, we are far down an asymptote, where parody is regularly confused with news, and politicians are confused with problem-solvers.

I’m not naive; I realize there is no such thing as “peak stupidity”. Continue reading →

An Abject Apology by Sarah the Mouse

This is embarrassing. I don’t have dialog for weeks, but who do they trot out to apologize to our readers? Moi, “the diplomatic one,” as Q said. I applied at Disney before coming here, but they already have a mouse character. The stench of Ren & Stimpy has poisoned the industry for mice, so it was either here or back to the Great Mouse Communist Collective. Continue reading →
