A Warning About Zero Hedge
Zero Hedge is an interesting website. It offers about 60% economic posts, 30% political posts, and 10% “other”. I’ve been reading it for years. About 15% of the articles are complete and utter garbage, and if you can’t tell which they are you should avoid reading there. A healthy comment section would usually give a muggle some practice at developing this skill, but the site seems to attract folks that measure their worth by the thickness of the tin foil in which they swaddle their brains, before inserting them into a microwave. When we started this site I feared this day would come. I have to violate my own personal standard as a wanna-be writer: Don’t Be Boring.

Why I Have to Be Boring
We sent our Christmas card to friends and family, and included our postcard from Worldcon, in addition to personalized Christmas greetings and such. Our mothers didn’t know they had provided fake quotes promoting our comic. We thought we might want to let them know, so when the thought police show up to arrest them they will understand why. We’ve now heard back from some of them. All the responses boil down to the same sentiment, couched in as nice a verbiage as they can muster.

Around 3500 BC we built a great tower, and challenged God for control of the heavens. God was not amused, and sentenced us to language diversity. You can read the original story in Genesis 11.

Unconstructed Stupidity

I’ve always pictured societal stupidity as a two-dimensional graph. I’m almost certain that one of those sides is labeled “self-importance”. The other is a mystery. At present, we are far down an asymptote, where parody is regularly confused with news, and politicians are confused with problem-solvers.
