Fantastic Schools and Where to Find Them

Who is this furry creature?

Why does he sport handsome mulluscan* features?

How is he* trailing… ectoplasm?

WHAT has Codex done with our comic?

Codex here. The main super-sekrit reason I needed a break (which got broken by missing computers and busted glasses) wasn’t just to build the south side of Ione’s study or endless crockery assets, complete with artistic cracks. Nope. there was another project involving this delightful creature, a library, and a really good book, so do save some Christmas budget for your tween- and teen-age readers.

Further I sayeth not, but All Will Be Revealed in time.

See you Monday.

*Second coolest phylum after Ascomycota.

**Possibly. After all, in English as in life, properly speaking, the male embraces the female. Assuming it applies in the first place of course. The Dungeon Dimensions get… Odd.

Bankrupt my pants, Codex, Moscow Rules, Q

Codex here.

Our Monday started Friday. “Your power will be off for five hours” they told us. Starting at 9am and ending ’round about 3pm they said. We figured they’d start late and end on Saturday. Like they do. We were ready. We were prepped. Continue reading →

WordPress Wizards & SoundEagle

This is weird and I hate to ask, but a new reader who goes by ‘SoundEagle’ followed by several mystery letters has tried to comment and like a bunch of our posts. I know because they show up in the email attached to the site.

Unfortunately, none of their comments appear for moderation or in the posts. I’ve checked spam. I’ve checked trash. I’ve checked pending. I’ve reloaded. I’ve quit browsers and restarted. I even sacrificed an entire can of green beans by recycling it into the compost heap. Surely the WordPress Fairy would take note and give us a break, no?

And no, I didn’t put the *can* there. That’s what the neighbors yard is for. Continue reading →

Codex the Blind Mushroom

Unfortunately, we have to extend our hiatus by an extra week. There is plenty of blame to be assessed, but ultimately it comes down to insane work policies at Codex’ ‘Day Job’, and her optometrist.

For those of you sipping either coffee or an adult beverage: Engage yellow alert.

If we could scientifically measure the policies put in place where Codex works, it would be about 12º Kelvin. It isn’t absolute insanity (0º K), because nothing at all would be done and that would be an improvement. They have to wipe everything down with a toxic solution designed to kill all viruses, germs, and bacteria, and yet is perfectly drinkable by children and leaves skin and furniture silky-smooth. Science says it is extremely difficult for the Covid virus to be transmitted via surfaces, but her workplace only follows CNN Science. We’ll just shorthand that to SCieNNce. Continue reading →

*** We originally ran this in September of 2018, but it always bugged me that we left off the ‘Help Wanted’ sign, which I only realized after we’d published it. I think everyone got it anyway. Fixed! ***

The Spork Speaks

*** This originally ran in 2017 and was then heavily revised in 2018. I’ve updated it again for 2021, since there are many more reasons to hold mostly peaceful protests. ***

Some people are pitchfork people. They like the heft, the balance, and the soothing calm that comes from sharpening evenly-spaced tines. Pitchforks look deadly. They are a practical yet humble implement used by commoners to work the land. When it’s time for 1776 shenanigans, pitchfork people herd oligarchical despots like snakes to a mongoose convention. Just as God intended. If you don’t find a cartoon-ish jab to the behinds of bankers, TV doctors, and corruptocrats as spectacularly hilarious as myself…

…then you are probably a torch person.
Torch people favor the agility a lit torch grants during disorderly political rallies. They enjoy the soothing calm that comes from staring into a dancing flame. Torches are the tool of alchemists, using a secret chemical reaction which few can explain, but everyone can understand. Making despotic autocrats do a heat-avoidance jig is humiliating and effective. Fire cleanses in a righteous manner. Also as God intended. Continue reading →

Codex

Codex and I have been married for more than 20 years. Even the most clueless married couples will eventually catch on to unusual patterns. Odd behaviors. Weird defensive postures. Defensive postures that involve thick sticks.

Be me. Continue reading →
