Wednesday Miscellany: Prayers requested

21 Wednesday Jun 2017

Codex here with a riddle for you: What do you get when you cross a 55-year-old mushroom and a diving shoulder roll*?

Answer: A half-finished comic and an artist who can neither sit nor stand for very long.

So prayers would be much appreciated, not only for healing, but for finding work-arounds so that if the good Lord in his Wisdom wants me side-lined for a while, the things folks are counting on me to do get done.

(*Another super fun activity like leaping side kicks and tree climbing that Codex is no longer allowed to do. Sigh.)

dragons, Saturday Sketches

In keeping with The Finality, this will be my last Saturday Sketch*

pencil_sketch_dragon_lying_on_backIt’s the design for an indy book review I was going to do… but didn’t because I gave the book away to a dragon-loving kidlet friend of the yard-ape, who kept it. Yes, I know, just write it up from my notes. Can’t find ’em. Can’t remember the title of the book. Or the author. Surprisingly “dragon” doesn’t really narrow things down as much as one would hope.

But if you ever get a chance to read an indy book about a family of dragons – two brothers and a sister – who are forced out of their territory before they’ve grown enough to defend it from more powerful adult rivals – give it a try. I quite liked it. I particularly appreciated the author’s using alien biology to circumscribe her dragons, they really were another, albeit intelligent species. The hook that kept it familiar and kept the reader sucked in was the sibling dynamics. She nailed that, too.

*Because they’re moving to Wednesday 🙂

Saturday Sketches: Monster Art Battle continued

Codex here. So, a few Saturdays ago, I wrote about a game of illustrator prompts called Monster Art Battle.

I left our humble readers with the challenge: Design a monster with that contains (in some way) “mobster”, “squid,” and “pet kitten.”

Here’s what I came up with:

Soooo… D’you want any other prompts from the convention panel?

(True confession: I had to look up “tommy gun” on google images. But it was still fun to draw)

Monster Battle Time, Monsters, Saturday Sketches

When the Q, Glyph, and some Animania friends were at Emerald City Comic Con, we attended an event called Monster Battle Time. Being us, we spent most of the event whispering about how to make the game more fun (we’re sooo doing this at Tosho-Con) and of course, played along.

Here’s how it works: Grab your pen & paper. Got it? Okay: in two minutes, draw a monster with 3 – 5 characteristics chosen by a random audience member. For example:

It was pretty fun at the time but when I got home, I realized the game was also a fun way to do “illustrator prompts” ala the Sunday Vignettes over at According to Hoyt blog. (They’re pretty fun, especially if you have the writing chops – or wanna be chops – to play along)

Like this:

Next Monster Art Battle prompt:

  • Mobster
  • Squid
  • Pet Kitten

Have fun!

Feminism

Codex here.

Today, like many women across the country, I participated in the national economy by working on my craft, and shopping for my family. I read my Bible, did laundry and cooked dinner for my family.

Later, on Gab, I’m going to correct a feminist meme.

So, basically, today was #DayWithoutFeminists.

More, please?

I fixed the Friday comic text. “Friday,” “Monday.” It’s all just days of the week ending in “-day” right? Potay-to, Potah-to.  Sigh….

Meanwhile here’s a lunch box sketch I made for Glyph as a preview for Monday. Still plugging away on it.

Codex here. Seriously folks, I’m not making excuses to curl up with a nice cuppa and stack of even nicer indy fic. I’m still recovering from the ‘flu thing so I’m only really able to work for a little bit before I conk out, and Friday’s comic is a YUUUGE splash page. God willing, it will be up on Friday. Monday. Duh. If it were up on Friday it would be on time.

Hey, nearly two years of web-comic-ing and this is only our third day of late posting. Unless you count all the times I screw’d up the “schedule” function in WordPress, of course.
